Committees

UN Security Council

The Security Council is the most powerful committee within the United Nations. It is responsible for maintaining peace and security between all nations. This committee has the authority to deploy UN Peacekeeping Troops to resolve conflicts around the world, but diplomacy is always the priority of the Council. A total of fifteen Member States make up the Security Council. Five of the member states, The United States, The United Kingdom, China, Russia, and France are Permanent Members. The remaining ten Elected Members are chosen for 2-year terms. The Permanent Members have the authority to veto decisions made by the Security Council, thus a resolution is automatically defeated if any of the Permanent Members disagrees with the resolution and votes against it.
