Workshop Details
Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How?
Hopefully this section will help us answer the many questions that you may have about the Foundations Program Workshop. This is a unique program within Model United Nations, as CAHSMUN is the first conference of its kind to offer this opportunity. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us about it!
Who:
The MUN Workshop is primarily aimed towards new or inexperienced MUNers who want a chance to learn and improve their MUN skills in a more relaxed atmosphere than a formal conference. However, we also encourage experienced delegates to apply to help facilitate and enrich the overall experience. The workshop is open to all students from grades 8 to 12.
What:
During the workshop, students will not only have a chance to familiarize themselves with the Rules and Procedures of MUN conferences; they will also get to apply what they have learned through debating current international issues, public speaking, and practicing the art of diplomacy, in order to attempt to create solutions to problems that have stymied real politicians themselves. Above all, this is a tremendous learning experience for all students who choose to take part in the Workshop.
When:
The Workshop is scheduled for January 9th 2010. It will be from 9:30AM to 4:30PM. Lunch will be provided.
Where:
The location of the workshop will be at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre at the University of British Columbia, at the Point Grey Campus in Vancouver, B.C. The address of the building is 1961 East Mall, UBC.
Why:
The creation of the Workshop embodies one of the goals of CAHSMUN: to help students who are new to Model United Nations (MUN) to familiarize themselves with the procedures of a MUN conference and prepare them for MUN in the future. The workshop will be facilitated by the Secretariat, who all have extensive MUN experience and wish to help new or interested delegates enrich their MUN experiences.
How:
At the Workshop, students will learn about how MUNs are run, so that they will be better prepared when they begin attending formal MUN conferences in the future. At the conference, students take on the role of an ambassador of a country. By learning about and representing their countries regarding their political, social and economic conditions before attending the workshop, in addition to pertinent global issues, delegates reach beyond their own communities to participate in their world.
